Courthouse / The Village

Courthouse / The Village

Town charm is abundant in the Courthouse/Village region of Powhatan County. This area serves as the county seat and is located in the south-central sector of the county. Because Route 60 runs just north of the Courthouse/Village locality, visitors from surrounding communities have convenient access to all of the historical and cultural significance this locality has to offer.

The Powhatan County Courthouse itself is designated as a National Historic Landmark, and the square surrounding the courthouse is a historic district. While the square holds the secrets and splendor of yesteryear, including buildings dating back to the 1700s and grand old homes, there is no shortage of modern events in the Village Square. Each year, thousands of visitors make their way to Village Square for the annual Festival of the Grape. Further events and attractions around the square are enhanced by the region’s walkable nature.

Places of Interest

While in the Courthouse/Village area, residents enjoy a variety of top-notch dining options, including local favorites such as the County Seat Restaurant and the Four Seasons. There are numerous local businesses to explore in the region, and shops, including antique stores, dot the district, as well. The Elizabeth Randolph Lewis YMCA is a true highlight of the Courthouse/Village community, as is the Powhatan Public Library, which is right across the street.

More About Courthouse/Village

When it is fresh air that residents crave, there is no better place than Fighting Creek Park, a part of Fighting Creek subdivision. This park features miles of walking trails, athletic fields, playgrounds and much more. Mill Quarter Plantation is one of the area’s most recognized golf courses and is located within the Mill Quarter neighborhood. Of course, the other subdivisions in the Courthouse/Village community have plenty to offer, too. Beautiful homes and tranquil environments make the Mill Station, Sparrow’s Landing, Chatsworth at Mill Quarter and surrounding neighborhoods wonderful environments for families of all types.
